My Name Is What? The Top 2011 UK & USA Baby Names Revealed

Unique baby names are so popular these days, that I wouldn't even bat an eyelid if introduced to a baby named Iced Cool Melon, Too Many Tequila Shots, or Rusty Doorknob. Come to think of it, I cannot actually remember the last baby I recently met with a classic traditional name. Just like fashion, names go in and out of style, and naming your baby Thomas or Kate is now soo last-season. If Beyoncé and Jay Z can name their baby girl Blue Ivy Carter then why not choose a baby name that will be sure to set your tot apart… right?
Beyoncé sporting blue nails to match her baby's name - obviously!
You would be surprised how different names are in America compared to the United Kingdom. After moving to London from the States, I definitely now meet more Victorias than Peggy Sues. As I’m sure you know, the top 2011 UK and USA baby names were recently published. I’m not researching this topic for a particular reason so don’t get too ahead of yourself! In case you need a quick break from work or your domestic duties, I have created a little quiz to test your baby name knowledge. What did the happy British vs American parents decide to name their little boys and girls? To quiz yourself on the top 3 UK and USA boy and girl names in 2011 click here.

So, were these the most popular baby names you had in mind? Given all the unique names people call their kids these days, I think it’s somewhat reassuring to know they are not typical according to the 2011 top baby names census. After my parents mentioned that they almost named me Antonia I will be forever grateful for being named Charlotte. Since my surname is Hill, you can only assume my nickname would have been Ant Hill. Phew!

When it comes to celebrity baby names in both the UK and the States, it seems the stranger the baby name the better. Former celeb couple Katie Price and Peter Andre thought they would be extra clever by combining their mothers' names, Thea and Amy, to create their daughter's name, Princess Tiaamii Crystal Esther Andre, pictured below.

I'm not even going to start on Princess Tiaamii's fake eyelashes and lip gloss!
Next time biting out of an apple, try thinking to yourself, like Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin, this fruit could be the future name of your daughter.

A fruit?

Or your daughter's name?

Just remember parents, when your child reaches their 18th birthday, they might also be celebrating the chance at last to change their name... Or maybe we should all move to France, where the top French baby names in 2011 were Clara, Léa, Lucas and Enzo!
